Moving Forward

Moving Forward is our 16+ course for young people who are not already in education or employment. If you, or someone you know, are 16 – 21 and are not currently in education or employment, our Moving Forward programme can help. The programme is suitable for students from all backgrounds including those with Special Educational Needs.

We understand how difficult home life can be and how it sometimes affects opportunities and growth in other areas of life, such as education. We work with students to determine a timetable that suits their needs and requirements. Moving Forward is a flexible programme that includes one-to-one coaching with staff members, support in CV and letter writing for jobs or college courses, and hands on experience and skills through a range of work experience opportunities throughout our company.

Individuals can begin the course at any point in the academic year, and stay with us for as long as they need. We understand that sometimes things don’t always work out as planned, and because of this young people can choose to stay for a minimum of eight weeks before they progress to somewhere else, or for up-to two years. All students work towards qualifications in The Arts Award and The Social Enterprise Qualification.

During their time with us students may take part in a wide range of activities including:

  • Developing leadership skills through peer mentoring younger students.
  • Learning about performing arts and different job roles.
  • Taking part in learning skills such as dancing, singing and acting.
  • Planning and running an event under A Mind Apart Events
  • English Functional Skills (for those who need it)
  • Work experience in administration
  • Work experience in working with children
  • CV and letter writing.
  • Developing skills and experience in applying for jobs

We work with all of our students to make sure that they are ready for the next step in their lives, enabling them to progress onto the next course or into a new job. Students can continue to receive mentoring and coaching from us for as long as they feel they need it once they have progressed. Moving Forward is also a perfect progression route for year eleven students in our alternative education programmes who might not be ready for college.

A Mind Apart has really helped me over the years, and work with me on so many things. I have come out of it all a better person. Thank you to all the staff at A Mind Apart.

The program has really helped me to learn that there is more to life than I first thought. It has given me opportunities that I didn’t realise were there before.
