Surgeries: Support and Advice From the Top

The A Mind Apart Surgeries are open to anyone wanting support in their career or business, and are an ideal way to try us out if you are interested in having consultancy support, coaching or mentoring from us. The surgeries are delivered by our Founder and Managing Director, Jodie Marshall and are all one-to-one sessions, offering you the opportunity to have some valuable time with someone who has extensive knowledge and skills in working in the arts, education, youth work and business. They are perfect for those wanting some extra expertise, support or advice.

Jodie has a Masters in Social Enterprise and Cooperative Management and has won awards for her work with A Mind Apart. She is a regular guest on local media and has appeared on national television speaking about her work, both in the UK and Brazil. Jodie has over ten years of experience of working in the arts, education, youth work and the voluntary sector. She has developed A Mind Apart to be sustainable, and created a coaching and mentoring management structure with her team. The coaching and mentoring ethos runs from the top of the organisation, down to students being coached and mentored by staff and even peers.

With experience of working with organisations in the UK and Brazil, Jodie has a wealth of knowledge around a wide range of areas, from being a struggling performing artist and being self-employed to running a small business. She is passionate about supporting small and medium creative businesses, as well as supporting individuals in the creative sectors to develop their business skills, enabling them to have the creative careers they are passionate about.

Jodie is also the Chair of Trustees for a Charity called Service of Hope, supporting those working with vulnerable young people and families in the North East of Brazil. She works closely in supporting a Non-Governmental Organisation in Olinda called My Fathers house. She is also currently one of three National Coordinators, sitting on the executive committee, for Initiatives of Change, UK. Jodie has now managed me for around a year and a half and in that time she has been a fantastic mentor, coach, and leader. She has supported my personal development as a tutor, organiser, and proffesional. This has included supporting my general development outside the work I do with A Mind Apart.

The nurturing environment that Jodie has cultivated in A Mind Apart has allowed all members of staff to grow and thrive in their individual roles.

A Mind Apart Event and Adult Course Coordinator

Jodie is fantastic at what she does, especially engaging young people in careers for the performing arts and working with groups who need accessibility to the arts. Highly recommended as an arts practitioner and as an award-winning business woman.

Jodie has a distinctive approach to social enterprise in the arts through her own company (A Mind Apart)….She is – in equal measure – both entrepreneurial and radical in her outlook, drawing inspiration from the teachings of Paulo Freire, and putting her mind, heart and soul into the projects she develops.
