Student Interventions

We work with local authorities, schools, social care and a range of other agencies to offer educational interventions for students who need extra support during their time in education, individuals who have not been in education for a long period of time, home-schooled students, those new to the area or those struggling with the school enviroment.

Not only do we teach a wide range of performing arts, from lyric writing and spoken word to acting, dance and drama, but, we also use performing arts to develop literacy, social skills and wellbeing in each individual student. All of our sessions are delivered by trained teachers who still work within the performing arts sector in a wide range of roles. Students gain a wide perspective of the creative industry whilst learning skills that they can use in their daily lives and take into most sectors of employment. Examples of this may include; directing, which develops leadership skills; acting, which encourages team work; and dance which can help to develop motor skills, movement and fitness. Everything that we teach encourages discipline and self-awareness, helping to positively engage even the most challenging behaviour. Our interventions are have the child at the centre, with each piece of support being delivered, in full partnership with the school and other agencies working with the child. Support can include conflict and behavioural management, support in developing soft skills, health and well-being support, which can also include create therapy. All of our work has performing arts techniques underpinning and are delivered in a practical way.

We are highly trained in all safeguarding issues (including PREVENT), and have staff with specialist training in working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), young people involved in gangs and anti-social behaviour, and young people vulnerable to sexual exploitation.

As part of supporting the development of confidence and self-esteem, all students have the opportunity to achieve a qualification in the The Arts Award which can be delivered at E3 to Level 3.

Our interventions and wellbeing programmes are available for all ages and can be delivered in school or on our site in Sheffield.  To refer a student or young person onto this provision please contact us on 0114 2321172.

Thanks to you my confidence has got a lot better and I am starting rehearsals for Calamity Jane on Monday, and that would not have been possible without your support.

Before I came to A Mind Apart I had no friends, and no confidence. Now I finally fit into a crowd and I finally feel accepted.

This program has helped with my depression, and gets me out of trouble. I have learnt to speak to my parents in an adult conversation. Having the chance to learn singing and acting has given me more confidence.

Thank you for the Street Dance activity provided by yourselves. I work with young people who are very easily distracted but were, with the modelling and positive encouragement, able to engage in the sessions provided. Not only did the young people dance in front of each other, they even took their learning away and were keen to show their new skills to other support workers within their home.
